Shamrock Rovers and Peamount set for final showdown

After all of the excitement of a close fought struggle for the inaugural Bus Éireann Women’s National League title attentions now turn to the final match of the season, the Bus Éireann Women’s National League Cup Final.

Peamount Utd and Shamrock Rovers will contest the first ever Bus Éireann Women’s National League Cup Final at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday, May 6th at 2pm. Peamount will be favourites for the cup as they claimed the league title on the last day of the season by virtue of a 1-0 win over Sunday’s opposition.

Shamrock Rovers will have plenty of reasons for optimism as they will have home advantage on Sunday and will hope that this will give them the edge that they need. Rovers proved to be a difficult opponent for Peamount in the  final game of the league where they made the champions work very hard for their 1-0 win.

Peamount had a tough journey to the final having to overcome Wexford Youths and then Raheny in the semi-finals. Shamrock Rovers enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Castlebar Celtic on their path to the final. Peamount hold the advantage in head to head meeting as they won all three of their previous encounters but on their last visit to Tallaght stadium they were fortunate to escape with a narrow 3-2 victory.

Peamount will look to their deadly striking duo of golden boot winner, Stephanie Roche, and Player of the Season, Sara Lawlor, to supply the goals as they pursue their double ambitions. Shamrock Rovers have the quality of Bus Eireann Women’s National League All Star, Rachel Jenkins to rely on and will hope that the seven goal striker will be able to add to her tally on Sunday
