Meabh DeBurca wants Galway WFC to finish their impressive season with a blast as they travel to UCD Waves for their Continental Tyres Women’s National League Cup semi-final.

Galway captain De Burca has seen her side fall off in the chase for League honours but the vastly improved Galway are hunting their first piece of silverware.

“It’s a chance of making our first national Cup final,” explained De Burca. “We were unhappy with how the WFAI Cup went, so this is a chance for us to finish the season strong.”

Peamount United ended Galway’s WFAI Cup dreams last September with a quick fire double, however Galway went onto win seven of their first eight League games.

“It still feels a bit strange that we fell off the League leaders, but compared to this time last year it’s a huge improvement all round,” smiled De Burca.

The 27-year-old believes the task against UCD may be big, but it certainly is not beyond the Galway side she had led out this season.

“While we lost to Wexford last Saturday, it was an improved performance, for some reason UCD just seem to have the edge on us," she said.

“It’s up to us to change that around and there would be no better way, then to make it through to the final."
