Cork City Women's held the Champions Shelbourne Ladies on the opening day of the 2017 Women's National League season.

Saiorse Noonan's strike had Cork City ahead for the vast majority of the match only to be denied victory through a late Jamie Finn goal at Morton Stadium.

It was a fantastic start for the away side as they took the lead inside the opening five minutes of the match. Stacey Paul found space and was able to pick out Noonan who struck an excellent effort to beat Amanda McQuillan from 20 yards.

City continued to create problems for the Champions as a long ball up field by Amanda Budden found new signing Clare Shine who saw her shot go narrowly past the left-hand post with just over 20 minutes gone.

Unfortunately, Shine was forced off with an injury on the half-hour mark as the Champions began to turn on the pressure for an equaliser.

After the break, Republic of Ireland international Leanne Kiernan forced Cork City keeper Budden into another fantastic save after a driving run and a powerful effort.

Shelbourne had the ball in the net several times but both goals were ruled out for offside as Shels finally found an equalizer in injury time.

Niamh Prior's corner found Finn who finished well to level the tie and to send both teams home with a point.
