Cork City WFC picked up a valuable victory on the road as they were 3-0 conquerors of Kilkenny United WFC in Thomastown.

A brace from Clare Shine either side of a Saoirse Noonan strike proved to be the difference in this game.

Cork started brightly with Shine and Danielle Sheehy both going close, but they found Kilkenny goalkeeper Nadine Ryan to be fully alert.

The home team almost snatched a surprise goal when Vanessa Ogbonna unloaded a shot narrowly wide. The new recruit almost made her former team suffer.

But Shine, who has been excellent since returning to the club from Glasgow City, did not waste her next chance as he fired in on 26 minutes.

Cork kept up the pressure - and needed Eve Badana to pull off a great save to deny Becky Conroy - right up to Noonan's delightful finish just before the interval.

Kilkenny tried to fight their way back into it but Cork proved to be too strong as Shine got her second goal on 70 minutes to seal the win.

Kilkenny United WFC: Ryan; Leavy, Ni Se, Delaney, Boyle, Tumelty; Gee, Payne, Carroll, Conroy; Ogbonna.

Cork City WFC: Badana; O'Keeffe (O'Brien 67), Barrett, McNamara, Duncliffe; Sheehy, Daly, McCarthy (Lehmann 72), Paul (O'Gorman 62); Shine, Noonan.
