Galway WFC picked up their fourth win of the Women's National League season as they overcame third-placed UCD Waves 1-0 at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Although Aine O' Gorman enjoyed the first shot on goal after good work from Dearbhaile Beirne on the left flank assisted her, the final effort was saved. From there, the Galway Girls took charge of proceedings after a slice of luck.

After an arrowed free kick from Meabh De Burca, floated in towards Aoife Brennan, Chloe Mustaki misjudged the flight, stuck her leg out and lobbed the ball unfortunately over Erica Turner to give Galway a 1-0 lead.

Brennan got a shot away a few minutes later after a lovely lofted ball from De Burca inside the area played the Galway no.17 down the right-hand side of the 18-yard box, but Turner got down to deny her.

Sadhbh Doyle played a blinder and she very nearly doubled the Tribeswomen's lead in the 22nd minute with a shot on target, but after dribbling into position, her toe-poked effort across the goal bobbled harmlessly wide by inches.

Doyle continued her dominant performance after the restart, getting a shot away in the 56th minute, but it was her work-rate to chase down a long ball that almost earned the hosts their second.

Pursuing a launched ball deep into UCD territory, Doyle beat her defender, rounded the 'keeper and shot on goal only to see it cleared back to her - but she lacked composure to finish into the empty net, hoofing the ball wide instead.

Noel Kealy's side were not at the races overall, but they did improve in the final 20 minutes - Jetta Berrill could have scored with a pop-shot 15 yards out, but her effort was driven wide of the 'keeper's right post.

Late on, UCD had two great chances to equalise, but neither Catherine Cronin or Aine O' Gorman could get the better of Hughes as Billy Clery's troops hung on for three points that puts them in contention for a mid-table finish.
