Continental Tyres Women's National League leaders Wexford Youths opened up a five-point gap at the top of the table after a comfortable 2-0 win over UCD Waves.

Claire O'Riordan and Aisling Frawley scored either side of the break at Jackson Park to seal an impressive victory which all but takes Waves out of the title race.

Both teams started well but it was Youths who took the lead in difficult conditions at Jackson Park. Linda Douglas provided the quality with a low-cross into O'Riordan who slid in to finish off a fine move in the 25th minute.

Youths continued to create chances as O'Riordan failed to double her tally after going through one-on-one just after the break but fired wide after the break.

Substitute Rianna Jarrett was next to have a significant chance for the leaders as her speculative effort from distance crashed off the cross-bar with 25 minutes remaining.

UCD Waves manager Noel Kealy brought on Rebekah Carroll and Lauren Kelly to try and bring Waves back into the game but Youths sealed the tie with eight minutes remaining.

Youths broke quickly down the left and WNL Player of the Month for July Aisling Frawley latched onto the ball and through on goal, Frawley made no mistake.

The result sees Youths restore their five-point gap at the top of the table over second-placed Peamount United who have two games in hand on Youths and the two clubs will meet at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday, October 14th.
