Shelbourne Ladies captain Pearl Slattery picked up the Continental Tyres Women's National League Player of the Month for August.

Slattery turned in a string of impressive performances as Shelbourne rewarded a crucial victory over Cork City WFC in the Women's National League.

The 28-year old also captained her side during the UEFA Women's Champions League campaign where Shelbourne were unbeaten after drawing against Medyk Konin and PK-35, and claimed an impressive 3-1 victory against Linfield Ladies.

Since, Slattery captained her side to the Women's National League Cup victory as they beat Peamount United on penalties, after a 1-1 draw, in the final at Greenogue where she was presented with her Player of the Month award.

Slattery will have to continue her impressive form this evening as Shels travel to Greenogue to claim a crucial victory as they look to defend their Women's National League title with Wexford Youths currently top and tonight's opponents, Peamount United, second.

Shelbourne captain Pearl Slattery said: "I'm delighted to win the Continental Tyres Women's National League Player of the Month award for August.

"It was a really difficult month for us with five games in all. The Champions League matches were a great experience for the players and even though we were unbeaten, we were disappointed not to qualify for the round of 32.

"We're always looking to improve and keep pushing forward at Shels, we will keep fighting until it’s mathematically not possible to win the league title. Until then, we keep on pushing.

"The hard work continues this evening against Peamount and it's a game we're all looking forward to as we look to win every game remaining in the Women's National League."
