Galway WFC defender Chloe Singleton has been crowned the Continental Tyres Women's National League Player of the Month for September.

The 17-year old has enjoyed a brilliant break-through season with Galway WFC having joined Billy Clery's side in July.

Singleton has impressed with her defensive capabilities and her consistent performances as Galway claimed an impressive 5-1 win over Kilkenny United and were narrowly defeated in the WNL Shield Final against UCD Waves.

Singleton found out she was Player of the Month whilst she was on international duty with the Republic of Ireland WU19s as they qualified for the elite round after wins over Latvia and Estonia.

On receiving the award, Singleton admitted it came as a complete surprise and has praised the quality of the coaching at Galway WFC for helping her improve.

The Galway defender said: "It came to me as a real surprise seeing as I've only been in the national league a few months. To be recognised above all the quality of players we have in the league, it's a big moment for me.

"Joining Galway was a great decision because the training and coaching I've received has definitely improved me. It's down to Billy and Maz, and it's really helped me bring my game on.

"I found out when I was away with the WU19s side. It was probably one of my best trips away, getting plenty of game-time and it's given me a great confidence boost as well.

"I joined at the same time as Lucia (Lobato) so we've really helped each other out and we're both benefitting from the game-time for Galway. I was surprised by the high standard in the club and the league but I really think next season, as a club, we can definitely find another level."
