FAI Women Referee Development Day

A special Development Day took place at the Oscar Traynor Coaching Centre last Saturday for FAI Women Referees.  Officials came from all over the country to participate in specific workshops in match control, judging challenges and other practical referee matters.  This was the first such event specifically dedicated to Women Referees and catered for all levels from Grassroots to FIFA level.

The workshops were facilitated by Hilda McDermott, Gerard Perry, Hugo Whoriskey, John Stacey and James Finnegan.  Rhona Daly and Paula Brady, both FIFA Panel Members, also gave the participants the benefit of their experiences at the highest levels of the game.

This initiative was warmly greeted and appreciated by all participants.  Together with the first year of the FAI Women’s National League, the training and development of the FAI Women Referee cohort is a vital necessity for the development of the Women’s game.
