A Jamie Finn goal in the third minute of injury time earned Shelbourne a dramatic win over Wexford Youths in a high-octane Só Hotels Women's National League encounter at Ferrycarrig Park.

Shels were determined to follow up the previous weekend's League Cup success at the same venue and a first-half goal from Jess Gargan put them in the driving seat.

However, a strike from Rianna Jarrett with less than 20 minutes remaining looked to have rescued a point for the champions, before Finn grabbed a late, late winner.

The hosts created the first opening of note with eight minutes on the clock when Jarrett teed up the inrushing Edel Kennedy, who did well to make space for the shot but saw her effort helped around the post by goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan.

Three minutes later Shelbourne's Jamie Finn was put through by Chloe Mustaki, but her shot from a tight angle was always rising.

The visitors did manage to get their noses in front in the 25th minute when Emily Whelan had an effort on goal, which fell to Jess Gargan, who poked home from close range.

Wexford Youths briefly thought they had equalised six minutes later when Jarrett's cross from the left wing was spilled by McQuillan and Edel Kennedy bundled the ball to the net, but referee Seamus Kelly signalled for a free to the Dubliners.

Wexford threatened in the 38th minute when McQuillan did well to get her fingertips to a stinging Jarrett 30-yard free-kick and the Youths were at it again three minutes later when Aisling Frawley played a one-two with Jarrett, but lifted her shot over the top.

Gargan then had an opportunity to grab her second of the game when she was found by Jamie Finn, but she dragged her shot wide of the left upright.

Shelbourne began the second-half on the front foot and Emily Whelan fizzed an effort over the crossbar just two minutes in and Jessica Ziu blazed a shot off target moments later.

Jess Gleeson then headed a well-delivered Ziu corner over the crossbar in the 64th minute and five minutes later Noelle Murray saw her shot drift just wide of the far post.

However, Wexford were always in the game and they were back on level terms in the 72nd minute when the ball fell to the feet of Jarrett and she turned smartly before drilling the ball to the corner of the net.

Jarrett had another sight of goal with 11 minutes remaining but her header was comfortably gathered by McQuillan, while Kylie Murphy went close in the 88th minute when she won back possession and whistled an effort over the top.

Both sides knew they really needed three points to put any sort of pressure on leaders Peamount and Shelbourne really upped the ante in a frantic finish.

Substitute Kate Mooney almost broke the deadlock late on, but she was denied by a fine save from Maeve Williams, while Alannah McEvoy was wide with another effort.

However, they got their reward in the 93rd minute when Isabeal Atkinson whipped in an excellent cross from the left and Finn met it perfectly to stylishly steer a header to the net.
