The opening weekend of the 2021 SSE Airtricity Women's National League hit record highs with over 400,000 reached across social & digital media.

With LOITV proving to be an instant hit - over 5,000 unique users logged on to watch games for FREE - the coverage around the four games that kicked off the season reached unprecedented levels.

The launch of new channels on Instagram and TikTok boosted the existing following on Twitter and Facebook, with 40 organic posts in total showcasing the strength in engagement on a terrific first weekend for the League.

Led by FAI Communications Manager Gareth Maher and assisted by Social Media Coordinator Alice Linehan, the promotion of the League was helped hugely by a number of stunning goals from Becky Cassin, Rachel Kearns, Pearl Slattery and Eleanor Ryan-Doyle.

Along with goal clips - taken from LOITV - there were exclusive match-day posters created by John Sheehan, unique graphics from Playing Surface, photography from Sportsfile, and a prediction video from Republic of Ireland Women's National Team players.

Also, there was a huge amount of coverage in the local, national & international media as the League made a big splash on a weekend where international games were also taking place.

Sales for the limited edition '10 Years On' book, which captures everything about the first decade of the League, continues to sell well with copies already shipped around the world.

The second weekend of games takes place on Saturday, April 3rd.
