Roche is November/December Bus Éireann Women’s National League Player of the Month

PEAMOUNT United striker Stephanie Roche has been named Bus Éireann Women’s National League Player of the Month for November/December.

Roche, 24, achieved worldwide fame with a goal for her club against Wexford Youths in October that went on to achieve more than two million hits on YouTube but her form since then has been more pleasing to the striker.

"Since I got the goal that went viral I've scored ten goals so I've been in good goal-scoring form. I'm happy to get the Player of the Month considering there are so many players playing well in the league at the moment," she said.

"The goal that I scored against Wexford Youths helped get me back on the goal-scoring trail and I would have been happy enough if it had been a tap-in but the goals have been flowing since so I'm happy.

"We started to hit form after playing well in the Wexford game. We've got our team play right and we're bonding better so we're pleased."

This season has once again seen inaugural winners Peamount and last year's champions Raheny United battle for control of the title race and Roche wants to make sure it is the Peas who come out on top this term.

"The Raheny games are big. They've beaten us once and we've drawn once. They won the league last year and we want to win it back," she said.

"There'll always be that bit of rivalry there. The last time we played we had our chances - I had a few personally but I didn't take them. We're getting better and better. I feel that when we do play them again we'll beat them but obviously I'd say that."

Sue Ronan's senior women's international team are in La Manga this week as they build up preparations for their glamour World Cup qualifier against Germany in April.

"The home-based senior players are training together on Friday nights at the moment and we've had the week in La Manga too so I feel that things are pointing in the right direction for Germany in April," added Roche.
