Castlebar Celtic 2-2 UCD Waves

CORK City Women’s FC battled back from a two-goal deficit to claim their second point of the Continental Tyres Women’s National League today.

Peamount United had raced into a 2-0 lead at Bishopstown with Sharon Cullen giving the Peas the lead with a header after 15 minutes.

City keeper Trish Fennelly made a decisive save two minutes before stoppage time blocking down Kim Turner who had worked into a one on one with the Cork keeper.

Eleanor Ryan-Doyle doubled the Peas advantage 15 minutes into the second half with her sixth goal of the season.

Three minutes later the game took a decisive turn as Peas goalkeeper Vanessa Dunne was shown a red card after taking down Vanessa Ogbonna in the box. Stacey Paul converted the spot-kick with 10 minutes remaining.

City then grabbed their second home point of the season as Ogbonna nipped in to steer home and record her first goal of the season.

Meanwhile, Nicole Fowley grabbed her first goal of the season as Castlebar Celtic and UCD Waves played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Saturday evening.

AIne O’Gorman got the Waves on level terms after 26 minutes, dispatching an excellent drive after a well worked UCD move. It was O’Gorman’s 13th of the season.

Celtic keeper Rachel King then saw red five minutes into the second half after colliding with Waves forward Orlaigh Nolan outside of the box.

The 10 players of Celtic regained the lead nine minutes later with Aisling Egan sending home a close range effort but UCD responded once more when Emily Cahill secured a pint from 10 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, the Raheny United fixture with Wexford Youths Women AFC was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
