Wexford Youth’s Women’s AFC edged closer to their first Continental Tyres Women’s National League title with a decisive 3-0 victory over Raheny United today at Ferrycarrig Park. The win moved Youths ten points clear of the defending champions and handed the Pandas their first defeat in the league since November 2012.

Ferrycarrig Park saw an action packed first half between the top two with the Raheny coming close through Sarah Rowe and league leading scorer Katie McCabe. The deadlock in a tight game was finally broken 17 minutes into the second half when Kylie Murphy scored her seventh goal of the season from the edge of the box to give the league leaders the lead.

Three minutes later Wexford doubled their advantage when Aisling Frawley finished off Carol Breen’s build up for the hosts and Frawley then knocked home her second of the day on 67 minutes after Claire O’Riordan had flicked on Carol Breen’s cross. Kylie Murphy struck the woodwork late in the game before Siobhan Killeen went close to a consolation goal for the champions.

The win for the Model County team moves them 10 points clear of the champions with four games to play although Raheny still have two games in hand on the leaders.

UCD Waves are now up to second place, eight points behind Wexford, after their comprehensive 5-0 victory over Castlebar Celtic at Jackson Park.

Jetta Berrill gave Waves the lead after 18 minutes with her fifth goal of the season, before Caroline Thorpe doubled the advantage on 26 minutes.

Aine O’Gorman bagged her 18th goal of the season to make it three nil to Waves on 67 minutes with Orlaigh Nolan making it four nine minutes later. O’Gorman moved onto 19 goals for the season, and is now top goal scorer in the Continental Tyres Women’s National League, with an 88th minute strike but she missed out on her hat-trick having missed a penalty four minutes earlier.

The match between Peamount United and Cork City Women's FC was postponed due to weather conditions.
