Over the weekend, the Continental Tyres Senior Cup Quarter Finals took place. Wexford Youths Women’s FC, Peamount United, Kilkenny United, and Shelbourne Ladies Football Club all advanced to the Semi-Finals.

Wexford Youths was able to defeat Galway Women’s FC 3-2 in their match. Wexford took the lead early on with the first goal just five minutes from a Claire O’Riordan header. Wexford’s Jess Gleeson was able to volley home in the 11th minute.

Galway did not give up, and Lucy Hannon was able to narrow Wexford’s lead with her goal. However, right after, O’Riordan scored her second goal of the match making the score 3-1.

Galway’s Hannon was able to score a second goal, but it was ultimately not enough. Wexford’s 3-2 victory will earn them a spot in the Continental Tyres Senior Cup Semi-Finals.

Peamount United faced the UCD Waves in another quarter-final match. Peamount went into the game top of the Continental Tyres Women’s National League with UCD in second spot.

Peamount’s Amber Barrett took the lead in the opening 90 seconds with her goal off a through-ball from Clare Kinsella.

The Waves scored an equalizer after Julie-Ann Russell’s shot rebounded to Aine O’Gorman who finished. Peamount was able to regain the lead before the break with a goal from Lisa Casserly assisted by Roma McLaughlin.

The second half was scoreless, and Peamount’s 2-1 victory will place them in the Semi-Finals.

Kilkenny United recorded their first competitive win ever after a 3-1 victory against Lakewood Athletic FC.

Goals for Kilkenny came from Jenny O’Keefe, Niamh Kelly, and Hannah Scott, and Lakewood’s goal came from Christine Coffey in the 70th minute from the penalty spot.

The final Quarter-Final match was played between Cork City Women’s FC and Shelbourne Ladies FC.

Shelbourne was able to score four goals without reply as Noelle Murray played an impressive match with two goals and two assists for Shelbourne. Goals for Shelbourne also came from Alex Kavanagh and Rebecca Creagh, who suffered from a broken metatarsal from the match.

Shelbourne’s victory earned them a spot among Wexford Youths, Peamount United, and Kilkenny United in the Continental Tyres Senior Cup Semi-Finals.
