Peamount United stayed on top spot in the Continental Tyres Women's National League with a narrow victory over Shelbourne Ladies at Tolka Park.

Lucy McCartan's strike ten minutes from time secured an unlikely victory for the WNL leaders who had been under-pressure for the vast majority of the game.

Shelbourne were the side pressing forward throughout the first-half and had a great chance to go ahead after the break as Peamount were penalised for a handball in the area.

Leanne Kiernan stepped up but missed the spot-kick and ten minutes from time, Peamount bagged the all-important winner at Tolka Park to ensure the three points.

UCD Waves kept up the pressure on the league leaders with a 6-0 win over Kilkenny United.

Casey McQuillan, who had recently moved from Shelbourne Ladies' under-age set-up to Kilkenny, was taking charge of his first game as Kilkenny manager but couldn't do anything to halt the Waves attack.

Republic of Ireland striker Aine O'Gorman scored an impressive brace with goals from Jetta Berrill, Orlagh Nolan, Sinead Gaynor and Aisling Dunbar making up the 6-0 scoreline.
