Leanne Kiernan scored a hat-trick as Shelbourne underlined their title credentials with a crushing 7-0 win over UCD Waves at Jackson Park on Sunday afternoon.

Isibeal Atkinson scored twice either side of half time, while substitute Fiona Donnelly and captain Noelle Murray also netted in a very one-sided encounter.

The Reds began their season with a hugely disappointing 4-1 reverse to Peamount United on St Patrick's Day but have been flawless since, conceding just once in three straight wins.

Ireland striker Kiernan opened the scoring after 16 minutes following a lofted pass from Murray and, with just keeper Erica Turner to beat, she easily found the back of the net.

Shelbourne dominated possession but struggled to turn it into chances, but they doubled their advantage on half time as Atkinson blocked down Aisling Dunbar's clearance and rounded Turner.

Atkinson doubled her tally six minutes after the break as UCD failed to clear their lines, and the winger smashed the ball past the despairing Turner from close range.

The Reds had a succession of chances before Donnelly made it four midway through the second half, tapping home after being unselfishly set up by the outstanding Kiernan.

Murray made it five from the spot nine minutes from time after Róisín McGovern brought down Atkinson in the box.

Kiernan missed a couple of one-on-ones late on but she added two in the final three minutes to ensure she took the match ball back north of the Liffey.
